Measures to clean the environment from oil pollution can be carried out in a variety of ways. Today, the most popular are three of them:
• mechanical – with the help of vacuum installations, special oil collectors, motor pumps and other mechanisms, oil products are removed from any surfaces, as well as its separation from water;
• physico-chemical – with this method of purification, sorbents are used – special materials capable of absorbing oil. After completing the task, the sorbents are also collected using various mechanisms and devices. In addition, when soil is polluted, various solutions are used to wash it;
• biological – oil and its by-products are simply decomposed into simpler and non-hazardous components with the help of specially bred bacterial strains. After cleaning, bacteria, as well as decomposition products, are collected from the surface.
After cleaning by any of these methods, the collected oil, its products or simpler elements, together with other chemicals and biological organisms, are transported in special containers to storage or disposal bunkers.
